Planned Parenthood Direct

Birth control app from Planned Parenthood

Our favorite thing about Planned Parenthood Direct is that, well, it's made by Planned Parenthood.

  • Transparency

It's made by Planned Parenthood, which means it's built by trusted, expert providers.

  • Convenience

Their app is super well-designed and informative, and they promise your packages will be discreet.

  • Choice

They can only mail you the pill at this time, but you can get prescriptions (that you'll have to pick up at a pharmacy) for other forms of birth control through them.

  • Accessibility

Getting the pill through Planned Parenthood Direct is affordable (a visit is free!) and it's available in over half the country.

Planned Parenthood made a sleek, intuitive app where you can order birth control, UTI treatment and emergency contraception by mail. Trust is built into the experience, with Planned Parenthood laying out all of your choices for birth control — the pill, the patch, the ring, the shot, the implant and the IUD — as soon as you hit the app. We didn't see this in any of the other on-demand birth control services we tested; it's a huge plus.

Pros

  • The app provides educational information on all birth control methods off the bat

  • You don't need to sign in to the app before you decide whether or not you want to order birth control through Planned Parenthood

  • They can prescribe you the pill, the patch, the ring or direct you to a local health center for the IUD, implant or the shot

  • There's no visit fee to get a prescription

  • On the app, birth control starts at $20 per pack (and varies by state)

  • The app is trans-friendly

  • Planned Parenthood lets you order the number of birth control packs you want (3 months, 6 months, or 1 year)

  • Shipment is discreet and sent in a soft white envelope with no Planned Parenthood branding

Cons

  • At this time, Planned Parenthood can only mail you the pill

  • They only offer 10 types of the pill, where some competitors have over 100 types available

Do they take health insurance?

Where can they prescribe birth control?
